Okay lets talk these 3 basic bladed weapons
Great by themselves and together combined with using other weapons.
Now I'm not going to fill this up with pages of useless crap like the history of the sword or types and whats better or worse you don't need that, you need to know what works and is easily available in stores and its quality so lets get to it
Swords- the best type you can find and need is a high carbon steel or damascus steel which nothing more than folded steel to make it high quality, usually folded a few thousand times, the next step down would by high carbon, than carbon steel, carbon steel is usually found in some machetes and are cheaper than a sword and more widely sold they are also cheaper.
I'm not going to tell you whats the right type of sword for you because everyone is different and every person has different tastes, there are many different types and styles out there and you will have to find out what works best for you.
If you have no real practical experience with a sword than the common machete might be a good fit for you.
Knives- same with swords I don't repeat myself, but some types are better than others, all are good or good-ish but some are more practical than others, pocket folding knives are decent again steel quality is a factor, most pocket folders are going to be stainless steel which is okay but will require time for sharpening, blades to wear down with use from cutting.
Fixed blade knives are good, a full tang fixed blade knife is a must have to survive.
Beware of rat tail tangs on knives and that includes hollowed out survival knives, don't get them, than abuse them they will break that's a fact.
If you want a flashy piece of crap that will cut and nick you go to a pawn shop for a pocket folder, handle with care.
Axes- Come in all shapes and sizes The metal quality doesn't have to be great as it less for show and more for strength, most of the time wooden handles to hold it together easy to replace if it breaks, newer ones fiberglass composite handles and are more durable and break less often, in this category you would also have hatchets which are smaller axes, the older hatchets tend to made of cast iron while the newer ones are high carbon steel.
Now when I say stores I do mean retail or garden stores, and other places that sell tools, and sporting goods stores within reason. A short list would be: walmart, kmart, sears, home depot, lowes, harbor freight tools, dicks sporting good's, and ace hardware.
This is by no means a complete list but will give you the basic idea where you can find a few things.
